We have been huge fans of John Arbon Textiles for a while and are beyond thrilled to have their yarn in the shop. They are a worsted wool mill in Devon, England that takes solid color tops and blends them to get their beautiful colorways. Some colorways are are a blend of 6 or more individual colors making for very rich and nuanced colorways. See picture for an example of the seemingly disparate colors that are blended together. We think that is the Slack Ma Girdle colorway being blended. Be sure to zoom in to the colors to see how gorgeous the final yarns turn out. Curious about what the fiber looked like before it was spun? We also carry Appledore Fiber Tops; you can see them here.
Appledore's colorways are all named after heirloom apples local to the mill in Devon. The names are as colorful as the yarn. The yarn is a blend of three British sheep breeds: Devon Closewool, Romney, and Exmoor Blueface. All are fully traceable to growers local to the mill. This yarn will make fantastic sweaters that will wear well.
While this yarn is labeled a DK weight, it is common for UK yarns to run light. Expect this yarn to knit at a Sport to DK weight.

We encourage you to check out their YouTube channel to see fun mill tours and so much more. It is a delightful rabbit hole to fall down. Plus they are lovely and charming people.
