Amalgam was born when the farm that raises the Targhee wool for Kingston asked if Jill might be interested in some Welsh Mountain Black wool. She was indeed & Amalgam was born. Made to be a sibling for Kingston it has the same spinning specs, 3 plies, DK weight & woolen spun. The 4 shades of Amalgam are made by varying the percentages of Targhee & Welsh Mountain Black - which you can maybe imagine is a naturally black wool. This yarn is bouncy & round & retains quite a bit of lanolin making is a dream to knit.
Amalgam 1 is 100% Targhee
Amalgam 2 is 80% Targhee 20% Welsh Mountain Black
Amalgam 3 is 60% Targhee 40% Welsh Mountain Black
Amalgam 4 is 24% Targhee & 76% Welsh Mountain Black.
This yarn has been proudly made with New York State grown & USA spun wool.

Jill Draper Makes Stuff was born out of the desire to showcase the many beautiful breeds of wool while appreciating the work of each person & animal involved in the process.
Jill has been a maker as long as she can remember. After graduating Pratt Institute with a degree in Fashion Design & working in NYC for several years Jill realized she craved a closer relationship with the things she was designing. After a move Upstate, Jill started partnering with local farms to buy directly from the people raising the fiber & then bringing it to local mills to have it custom spun into the yarn she dreams up.
All yarns are made domestically from sheep to skein, including every step in the process.
