Upcycled Tote Bags | Dr. Laura
1 in stock
One of the best parts of this shop is all the delightful and creative people we meet. Dr. Laura we meet through our favorite knitting midwife. Dr. Laura uses durable bags that would otherwise go to the landfill to make these cheerful tote bags that are lined with a matching fabric and paired with a matching handle. Each one is unique and may not be repeated.
They come in one size with at least one internal pocket. Some will have special handles or additional pockets and be priced a bit higher. The base is approximately 8 x 3.5 inches. It is about 10 inches tall and 16 inches wide at the top. The handles are 12 inches, long enough to put the bag over your shoulder. The inside pocket is 7 x 7 inches; big enough for a cell phone, keys, and a few notions. Each bag can easily hold a sweater project, multiple smaller projects, or a few groceries. Need a small upcycled notions bag? Dr. Laura also makes small Clam Shell bags.
Note to local people: if you have durable plastic (including woven plastic) or burlap bags, you are very welcome to drop them off at the shop for Dr. Laura to use. Please consider any donated bags, just that, a donation. We cannot guarantee they are usable or what she will make from them.
Dr. Laura has been making things since she was tiny. Her “making table” in the basement was her happy place as a kid, and now that happy place is her sewing room! These clam shell bags are a current favorite. Her very generous local Buy Nothing group gives her coffee and rice bags. Chicken feed bags have come from her son’s colleague. Some of the linings are specifically purchased for these bags; other fabrics just come into her life, as these things do!
When she is not making upcycled bags, she is knitting, crocheting, sewing, and taking care of plants. And there’s also that day job as a doctor!
Please enjoy these bags – they are made with love.
