A: We do! You can purchase e-gift cards for our shop by clicking here. They can be redeemed in-store for purchases and classes. If you’d prefer us to send a physical gift card we’ll happily drop one in the mail free-of-charge, just give us a call at (510) 561-3680.
A: We do! We have teachers for nearly every knitting, crochet, and sewing technique, from the most basic to the most advanced. Our private lessons are $50 per hour, and for most they only require a 1-hour minimum. The best part is they’re super flexible and can often be scheduled before/during/after store hours, on any day of the week. If you’d like to book one, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org!
A: We do! Or should we say, we have a friend who does! We know a lot of tailors/dry cleaners won’t repair knits, and in a fortuitous turn of events a local cleaner kept sending people to us for help, and in turn we sent people to our friend/teacher Ilah Jarvis. Ilah can repair and tailor almost anything knitted! She has a $50 minimum per job, and if you are in need of her services send her an email at email@example.com.
A: Nope! While we carry a handful of items in the shop that say “Yarn Snob” on them, we’re not actual yarn snobs! We specialize in indie-dyed yarn, or yarns that are hand-painted by very small, women-owned, US-based businesses. It’s our favorite and what we’re passionate about, and most skeins average around $30. But that’s about as “fancy” as it get here. We try to carry the best yarns, but that doesn’t mean they have to be expensive! We carry a great classic worsted cotton for $3.50 a ball alongside hand-painted organic cotton for $20 a skein. We carry some superfine merino/cashmere/silk/yak skeins at times, but we also have the softest pure merino for $9 a ball. We want everyone, regardless of their budget, to find items they love and can afford. Click here and scroll down to see a list of companies we carry. And if you have suggestions for items you’d like to see us carry, please let us know!
A: We do! We know that getting a sweater quantity or a particular color on a particular base of indie dyed yarn is tough at times, so we offer custom orders from all our dyers. This means you can get the exact combination of color/yarn base/weight that you want, in any quantity, and we’ll make sure all your skeins are made to match. Plus, you don’t have to pay shipping and you get a 10% discount if you buy a whole batch or more (batch sizes vary from 3-5 skeins usually). If you only need a skein or two we’re happy to add them to our regular orders so you don’t have to fight for them during a dyer’s shop update. We also offer custom orders for any yarns, tools, and notions from any company we have an account with, because we can’t stock every type of knitting needle or blanket quantities of many yarns. The free shipping applies to any custom order, and the batch discount applies if you buy whole bag quantities of mass-produced yarns (bags of 5-10 skeins depending on the yarn), so if you need to order something anyhow, we hope you’ll think of us before going online! Just send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or order in-store.
A: We made a handy-dandy map of all the free and paid parking closest to our shop - check it out here. There's also info about public transit on that page. Long story short though, the lot behind the 4th & U apartment building across the train tracks from our shop is free 2-hour parking for businesses on this side of 4th St.
A: YES! The answer to this question should always be an enthusiastic YES! We welcome people of all ages, colors, and creeds into our shop. No ageism, sexism, racism, classism, or ableism will be tolerated in our shop - we treat all people as equals. Our shop is set up to be as welcoming as possible - we are ADA compliant with lots of room to maneuver, we have a kid's corner full of toys for little ones to play with while the adults shop - we're even dog friendly! We hope to see you in the shop as often as possible.
A: Yes! We have a comfy couch and extra chairs, and any time classes aren't in session (we sometimes use our front space for classes so please check our online schedule here, and try to plan a hang-out on weekdays or days with no classes), you're welcome to come and hang out. We ask that you be respectful of our space (please be tidy) and our customers, but you're welcome to bring in food and drink - we can even make you a cup of tea and we have filtered water. You're not obligated to buy anything, nor do you need to be knitting with yarn you purchased from us.
A: Yes! We are the only shop in the area that doesn't charge for help with small(ish) questions. Dropped a stitch? Need help deciphering a pattern? Want to make sure you’re doing your yarn-overs, shell stitches, or make-ones correctly? Then feel free to drop by any time! You don’t need to be working with yarn you bought from us, and everyone who works in the shop is very friendly & patient and knows how to knit, crochet, and sew. All we ask is that you be patient - we may get interrupted by other customers, but we’ve got a comfy couch to hang out on. Also it’s best to come by on weekdays for help as weekends can be very busy here. If you think you need more individual attention, we would suggest booking a private class - they’re the most affordable in the area!
A: We do! If you’d like to rent our workshop space, we charge $75/hr with a non-refundable $75 deposit to hold the space. Email us at email@example.com to book it! Rental of the workshop gives you access to the space, 4 mobile and 6 fixed worktables, and 25 chairs. If you wish to use the workshop equipment, additional fees will apply. If you’d like to book a teacher for a structured activity (especially good for children’s parties), we are happy to connect you with one and many offer a group discount. You’re welcome to bring as much food and drink in as you like, and you can have advance access to the space to put up decorations if desired. And everyone in your party gets a discount if they wish to shop too!
A: We’re glad you like it! It’s a Spotify playlist the shop’s owner spent countless hours building, and it gets updated as often as possible with new music. The idea was to have a little something for everyone (Chase has VERY eclectic tastes in music), and to have all of it be very positive both in tempo and lyric. It’s made with this thought in mind: If Wes Anderson and Amelie had a teenage daughter, what would she listen to? We call it Music to Craft By, and you can find it by clicking here, if you need some good background music while you practice your craft at home.
