There’s Two Black Squirrels?!
Yes! We have always and will always love our amazing Berkeley flagship store, complete with its huge workshop space and bright walls of windows, but it is missing a few key things: access to public transit, easy parking, and vibrant neighboring shops. Enter our new Temescal Alley space - it has all the things we love about the original space, packed into 260 square feet: it’s bright and open, filled with fun color, and most importantly the products within are in line with the core values of our company, which include supporting other US-based and woman-owned businesses, and carrying products with sound and sustainable manufacturing processes.
And as always, the number one goal at our shops is to encourage people to keep crafting!
We want all of our customers to feel welcome, regardless of their race, gender, sexuality, age, ability, or economic status.
They should never be afraid to ask questions or get help, and they should always feel encouraged with enthusiasm no matter their skill level or craft.
You are always welcome to spend time in either of our shops and get help with your projects whether you make a purchase or not.
Our original shop is highly curated, but due to its size the new shop is even more so. While it doesn’t have any sewing or spinning/felting supplies, you’ll still find a wall of indie-dyed yarns like the original, but stocked with a whole different set of west-coast-based indie dyers! It comprises most of the yarn in the shop, but we’ve added a range of stunning hand-spun chunky yarns, plus some beautiful, not-so-spendy yarns that fit in nicely with the others. There’s also a paired-down yet luxurious collection of knitting, crochet, macrame, cross stitch, embroidery, and frame loom weaving supplies, kits, and books, and a selection of handmade project bags & ceramics, cute stickers & pins, and so much more.
The new shop is a short, nice walk from MacArthur BART, and there’s plenty of nearby bus lines & parking in the neighborhood, making it easier for many of our customers to get to in a normal day. But being nestled in one of the cutest shopping areas in one of the hippest and loveliest neighborhoods in Oakland makes a visit a great way to spend a whole day too. Come visit us, then check out the shops and restaurants in the rest of Temescal Alley and all along Telegraph. We hope to see you soon!
